Highest level among the young batons seeking to establish themselves in Llíria

THE II INTERNATIONAL ORCHESTRA CONDUCTING COMPETITION ‘LLÍRIA CITY OF MUSIC’, IN COLLABORATION WITH AESDO, SUCCESSFULLY CLOSES ITS REGISTRATION PERIOD, WITH A TOTAL OF 120 APPLICANTS.

Llíria, May 10, 2023.- On Monday it was the deadline for registration for the II International Orchestra Conducting Competition ‘Llíria City of Music’, organized by the Department of Culture of the City Council of Edeta and the Spanish Association of Orchestra Conductors (AESDO). A total of 120 young conductors will aspire to enter the final phase of a contest that has already guaranteed an extraordinary level, given the quality of the people registered.

In this edition, there have been 24 female conductors (20%) and 96 male conductors (80%), all of them under 35 years of age, who have presented their credentials to compete in Llíria from July 17 to 22.

The Councillor for Culture, Paco Gorrea, underlined that “the determined international vocation of the contest is confirmed by the origin of its applicants, 83.5% are from outside Spain. Among them, the number of applicants from Venezuela is striking, that is 8. In addition, the representation of China, France, Russia and the United States will be numerous, with 7 applicants from each of these countries.

Two applicants from Australia and New Zealand, respectively, have also sent their proposals from the Spanish antipodes. An amount of 10 applications are presented as well from distant Japan and South Korea.

For all these reasons, “we are very happy with the global dimension that IOCC ‘Llíria City of Music’ has reached with barely three years of existence, since we have received requests from almost all regions of the planet. But the most important thing for us will also be the fact of giving projection to these young conductors from Llíria, as a Creative City of Music by UNESCO”, stated Paco Gorrea.

Likewise, “the European tradition is still valid and strong, but we are proud to also have a high level of interest from young Asian and American conductors,” said Cristóbal Soler, artistic director of the contest.

Undoubtedly, the most motivating factor for the organization is the high quality of the people registered, as Soler himself acknowledges: “In this edition, we have perceived a notably higher level. Practically, the 120 candidates are professionals with their careers already underway, despite their youth. This will ensure an exciting final in Llíria, with the best young promises of the baton from around the world competing to the fullest for the award”.

In the coming weeks, a prestigious jury will select, from among the 120 registered batons, the 25 applicants who will participate in person in Llíria during the third week of July, in a contest open to the public that the UNESCO Creative City already awaits with growing interest.

4) MAUSOLEOS ROMANOS

Ciudad romana. S. I – II d.C. declarado BIC
